5 CITIES FOR SPECTACULAR 4TH OF JULY LIGHT SHOWS
What do you get when you mix hot dogs, chips, beer, and fireworks together? That’s right . . . the Fourth of July! That special day when Americans have an excuse to party and look at bright pretty things in the sky because we gained our independence from England back in 1776.
In honor of Fourth of July, Outdoor Cover Warehouse is sharing some favorite spots to see a spectacular fireworks show and a spot to hitch your RV for a few nights.
Lake Tahoe - Nevada / California
The American Pyrotechnics Association rates South Shore’s spectacular 4th of July fireworks celebration one of the top five displays in the nation. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:45 PM. While getting to and from Lake Tahoe around the Fourth of July can be, well, a nightmare, it is also one of the most enjoyable spots to party and celebrate the day that America won its independence. Lights on the Lake firework display does not disappoint as it booms over the lake with grandeur.
Where to hitch your RV: Nevada Beach Campground is only minutes from the lake and offers great views of the fireworks.
San Diego – California
Southern California’s biggest fireworks show is the annual “Big Bay Boom” located along San Diego Bay. The Big Bay Boom is such a huge fireworks display that it can be seen from practically anywhere in the city. There are fireworks shows all around San Diego County that will impress, from Ocean Beach and Coronado, to Legoland and the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Where to hitch your RV: San Diego and California, in general, is loaded with great RV parks but we dig Campland on the Bay and Mission Bay RV Resort.
Philadelphia – Pennsylvania
Award for the cutest name of a fireworks show, the winner goes to . . . Wawa Welcome America Party on the Parkway in Philly. Considered one of the largest free celebrations in the country, this 4th of July bash comes complete with a free concert (this year featuring performances by Jennifer Hudson and Meghan Trainor), food trucks, a zip line, games, beer garden and a kid’s zone. Then of course, the grand finale is the amazing fireworks choreographed to a custom patriotic soundtrack.
Where to hitch your RV: Lake in Wood Resort is all about gnomes with its Gnome Café, and also has a very nice swimming pool complex.
Washington – D.C.
The Washington D.C. fireworks show is being called “Salute to America” and will begin with remarks from President Trump. The fireworks show will be held at West Potomac Park and will last an entire 20 minutes. Watch the D.C. skyline, monuments, and memorials all light up in the night sky with this awesome fireworks show. Watch the fireworks show from rooftop bars, National Mall locations, and even across the river in Arlington.
Where to hitch your RV: Cherry Hill Park has two pools, a splash park, tractor rides, miniature golf and everything you need to make your Fourth of July weekend fun.
San Antonio – Texas
What makes the Fourth of July fireworks show particularly special in San Antonio is that it is accompanied by the Austin Symphony Orchestra. This celebration includes live entertainment, carnival rides, food trucks, and of course a very special fireworks display.
Where to hitch your RV: San Antonio KOA is 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio and has 40 acres of camping enjoyment.
Take that Goldline cover off your RV, load it up with plenty of hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad, and head out on the road to celebrate the Fourth. Remember that the 4th of July is one of the busiest days of traffic the whole year, so be safe out there. Happy 4th of July!
